About the role

What you'll do

• DMS within Data Management Services (part of Data & Analytics Office)
• The Data function owns the bank’s data controls and the ecosystem of tools that allows every business and function to implement and evidence those controls. That ecosystem is being rebuilt: legacy tools are being redesigned, new platforms are being brought in, and the target state is a fully automated, control-by-design data estate, where data quality, lineage, metadata, classification, retention, access and issue management are largely machine-executed rather than manually attested.
• We are hiring a Product Lead to own that estate end to end. This is a build-and-scale mandate on a compressed timeline, not a steady-state product management role. The successful candidate will set the product strategy, consolidate a fragmented tooling landscape into a coherent platform, lead the product community, and be personally accountable for landing the target state within an aggressive delivery window.
• Governance and Committee Memberships
• The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
• The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
• The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply
• Own the DMS product vision and multi-year roadmap to deliver the bank-wide automated data control journey (control-by-design, scalable and measurable). Convert control outcomes into deliverable increments (epics/features) with clear acceptance criteria and benefits tracking (e.g., automation rate, evidence quality, adoption, cycle-time reduction).
• Partner with Data Technology and Architecture to define the target state and make explicit buy / build / configure / retire decisions, including legacy rationalisation and decommissioning. Create platform consistency by setting common product standards/patterns across DMS (e.g., workflow, APIs, integration patterns, MI/metrics, auditability) so tools operate as one coherent estate.
• Lead and develop the Product Owner community across the DMS portfolio, setting direction, ways of working and a consistent bar for discovery, prioritisation and outcome delivery. Orchestrate delivery through matrix technology teams (without direct line management), aligning priorities, managing dependencies, removing blockers and ensuring shared accountability for outcomes.
• Run portfolio-level prioritisation and capacity allocation to ensure engineering effort is focused on the highest-risk/highest-value control outcomes, with realistic sequencing and transparent trade-offs. Establish and operate strong delivery governance to maintain delivery momentum and quality.
• Drive adoption and change at scale (training, communications, migrations) ensuring DMS tooling becomes the “path of least resistance” for Data Owners, Data Stewards and control teams. Ensure risk, regulatory and control-by-design compliance: DMS products must meet HSBC standards for security, resilience, data privacy/records management and third-party risk, and provide defensible evidence/MI for Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit.
